Stormy Taos Tree near Taos, New Mexico.
This old tree greets you from the side of the road as you enter the Taos Valley from the south and make a final turn towards Town, driving north on Highway 68, near the Overlook.
The dramatic vista of a beautiful valley in the background, split by deep canyon lines mirrored by mesas, and cradled with mountains all under our one big sky. And this tree says welcome.
This day was stormy, which played well with the death of Taos Tree. The tree hanging around for a roadside afterlife, branches dead like their winter shadows seem made for a summer storm scene. The clouds above dominate with an almost eerie feeling, a distant rain shower moves along. A pair of weathered mailboxes are partnered nearby in some brush, just off the redish graveled highway shore.
We’re ready to catch a ride and turn right towards Town.
