The Durango and Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad Steam Train runs for 45 miles along the Animas River through the San Juan National Forest in Southwestern Colorado. It first ran between Durango and Silverton in 1882 and has continued for over 140 years. The steam engine locomotives are still steam powered however they are now fueled with oil and not coal due to risk of wildfires along the route during the high season.
